SEO turned from child’s play into scam. How did that happen?

SEO turned from child’s play into scam. How did that happen?

You think that things will become a bit normal again after the flood of posts all over the internet after David Pasternack’s 3rd negative post about SEO, just to get “stabbed” from yet another side.

I won’t link to the post by Jason Calcanis and add to the number of inbound links to his blog to play his seo fiddle.

There is nothing left for me to say, that was not already said in detailed and excellent way by Danny Sullivan at SearchEngineLand.com and Greg Boser at Webguerrilla.com.

It did cause me to take another look at the search engine optimization article at wikipedia. I noted some statements that made me scratch my head. I also noticed some very important aspects missing, e.g. Social Media.

Since my attempts to motivate SEO professionals to improve on the article did not bear any fruits yet, did I, the affiliate marketer and “hobby SEO” (because it is not rocket science, just kidding), went ahead to do the SEO professionals job.

I added two new paragraphs and modified the intro paragraph severely. Please have a look and don’t be shy to press that “edit” button and fix errors and add missing information. Wikipedia does not bite.

The massive amount of additions and my several other changes to the article did stir up some dust at Wikipedia as well. One Editor reverted the changes completely. They are now visible at the Article talk page for discussion. Every professional SEO who has a professional opinion is welcome to join the discussion and provide his expert opinion.

Here is the link to the discussion.

Aaron, Rand, Danny, now you can do something about what you complained about. No but, if or how, straight forward. Bill, I hope you will join the discussion too. The article is read by a lot of people. A great number of them does not know anything or only little about SEO.

You want to educate people that it is no scam nor child’s play. Here is a great opportunity to do exactly that.

Everybody else who has an interest in the correct perception of people about the SEO industry is addressed with this comment as well.
