Twitter’s Vine Now Allows You To Import Existing Videos, Plus New Editing Features

Twitter’s Vine, the popular six second video sharing service introduced two powerful new features today — advanced video editing and the ability to import existing videos.

Vine unlocks a new camera that gives you the freedom to create a Vine in any way you want. The new camera offers powerful ways to edit your videos as well as the ability to import existing videos on your phone and turn them into Vines. Simply put, this release gives you total creative freedom –– and it’s all within the app.

To import existing videos, go to the capture screen and look for a new option in the bottom left corner that lets you import a video. You can upload one video as well as mix several together. Slow motion videos are also supported.

To access the new video editing features, tap the scissors from the preview screen and you’ll be able to try out new tools such as the duplicate button and mute button.

Richard Plom, Vine iOS Engineer, highlights some more useful new features:

My favorite new tool is the preview and undo button — with one tap, you can preview your last clip right from the capture screen, and if you don’t want to use it, you just tap the same button again to undo it.

The camera itself also has a few new features, now you can customize your shot before you hit the record button. Tapping the wrench from the capture screen will open a second layer of camera tools:

  • Grid, plus a new level
  • The focus lock (which now works with the front-facing camera in addition to the rear-facing camera)
  • Ghost mode (which shows you the last frame of your previous shot)
  • A new torch feature (so you can now shoot in low-light settings).

To try out all these new features, just download the latest version of Vine for iOS. An Android version is said to be coming soon.
