Yahoo To Launch its New Mobile Website

Yahoo just announced that it will soon be launching a new mobile service which it describes as a highly-personalized mobile starting point to the Internet.  To be available as a native application for the iPhone, as well as other smartphones  of  Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and other Windows Mobile powered handsets, the new Yahoo Mobile Service is currently on a closed beta mode.yahoomobileHoping to try out the new Yahoo Mobile Service, I pointed my iPhone’s browser to mobile.yahoo.com. But I didn’t get to see the new live site. Instead, I was redirected to a registration page for the beta site. Hopefully, Yahoo would give me access to the beta site.

Anyway, to give us an idea of what to expect from the new Yahoo Mobile Service, here’s what Yahoo has to say about the features of the new mobile website and iPhone application:

  • Yahoo! oneSearch
  • Today –interesting stories selected by Yahoo!’s editorial team
  • Yahoo! oneConnect
  • Email – access to Yahoo! Mail and other email service providers, including Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail and AOL Mail
  • Pulseaccess to social networks, including Bebo, Dopplr, Facebook, Flickr, Friendster, Last.fm, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube
  • Yahoo! Messenger
  • Yahoo! Address Book
  • Yahoo! Calendar
  • Yahoo! News
  • Yahoo! onePlace

While the smartphone version of  Yahoo Mobile Service will have the following features:

  • Maps
  • Opera Mini 4.2
