ChaCha, the real time human-powered search engine which is rapidly growing in popularity, announced today it received $6 million in private funding in 2006.
The funding was led by Bezos Expeditions, the personal investment firm of Jeff Bezos, with additional participation from Rod Canion, founding CEO of Compaq Computer, and Jack Gill, veteran Silicon Valley investor, founder of Vanguard Ventures and current partner at Maven Ventures.
As the first search engine to offer two options for searching — one with a human guide who assists you in real-time via an instant-message chat and the other option providing immediate search results that include instantaneous user-ranked results, ChaCha is standing out in a crowded search engine market.
“At ChaCha, we often give you instant search results that are better than other search engines,” said CEO Scott A. Jones. “But if you’re still stuck and searching for something a little more difficult, we can connect you with a live human guide in real-time who will assist you with your search, for free.

As a writer and advocate of “change” in both individualistic and societal endeavors I truly believe that ChaCha, through its human interactions, will help instill in us a more profound sense of “connectedness to the world.”
Also, as a guide, I feel as though I am a librarian to the world –the type of librarian who’d make Benjamin Franklin proud.

I’m a stay at home mom. I just became a ChaCha guide and am finding it to be a wonderful job. It’s great helping people find the information they need.
Try it. You’ll like it!

Hi,
I am interested in becoming a Chacha Guide. I understand that a Master Guide has to to invite me.
Can you please tell me how I go about doing this.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Miriam

I am a university teacher by profession with a hobby for searching good information on the net. Chacha is a good outlet for me to share what i’ve accumulated over years of research. One problem though, becoming a guide is very difficult obviously to screen out poor guides. Anyway i hope someday some master guide will test me and hopefully invite me, so that these billion neurons of mine can help others. I believe even Google’s server farms doesn’t have common sense.

Hi, I don’t know if you still have any invites left but I am extremely interested in becoming a Cha Cha Guide. I was actually in the middle of becoming a Cha Cha text guide, but this sounds even better!! The reason I want this job opportunity is that I love to search the internet and look for random things. In my computer class we would have contests about who could find the most interesting things on the internet. Plus I love trivia and know quite a few things about Pop Culture, Sports and the World in general. Anyways, I’m starting to sound like I’m in an interview. Sorry. But yes I would love to be a guide, and if anyone has any invites I really won’t let you down. I’m a great worker….I just need that Golden Ticket. Thanks.
