Yahoo Announces Media Head – Former ABC Chairman Braun
Yahoo today hired former ABC television network Chairman Lloyd Braun as head of Yahoo Media and Entertainment. Lloyd Braun will be overseeing Yahoo movies, TV, entertainment, music, games, finance, news, weather, sports, health and children channels.
Bloomberg reports that Braun left Walt Disney Co.’s ABC network in April after working since 1999 as chairman of ABC entertainment programming. Yahoo said Braun oversaw the development of hit shows on ABC’s current programming schedule including “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives.” Braun’s hiring helps to complement the vision of Yahoo CEO Terry Semel to not only excel Yahoo in terms of web search, but also as a competitive media channel.
Semel has helped to forge Yahoo into a major media player and the pinnacle online entertainment network via broadband telecasts and pay per subscription services. Earlier this year Yahoo fortified their committment to online media by acquiring Music Match even after adding such media outlets as Launch and Broadcast.com as well as partnering with Napster. Such a direction in helps Yahoo expand their group of competitors beyond sole search entities as Google, and into the realm of web media moguls such as Apple, Virgin, and MSN.
