Del.icio.us Hits 1 Million Member Mark
Think only the elite opinion leaders of the tech and online worlds are using social bookmarking services such as Yahoo’s del.icio.us? Think again.
Social bookmarking and social media is moving beyond its core grassroot following and bringing in more and more users daily, with the help of Yahoo!.
Yahoo! has taken social media beyond its initial Valley playground with its Yahoo Answers, Photos and Trip Planner offerings. And even better news, the parent companies of Social 2.0, such as Flickr and del.icio.us, have continued their growth under the Yahoo umbrella.
del.icio.us itself hit a new benchmark today, registering its one millionth user to its online bookmarking, tagging and sharing service. Here’s an interesting stat from Yahoo, in just nine months since its acquisition by Yahoo!, del.icio.us has more than tripled its registered user base.
Not to say that this is all the doing of Yahoo, as their ‘hands off’ approach has let del.icio.us continue to take advantage of and expand its loyal user base; even after its many recent changes.
Joshua Schachter posts on the del.icio.us blog, “We can hardly believe it ourselves (although the smell of smoke coming from the server rack seems to eerily confirm it). Thanks to each and every one of you for making all this possible.”
And thank you Joshua, for bringing the del.icio.us tool to all of us!
