With all those lots and lots of FireFox SEO extensions I’ve been sharing, I’ve always felt guilty for encouraging you to overload your browsers.
Most of the plugins I’ve been reviewing are helpful (though I am not using all of them naturally and surely you might have picked only those that seemed useful) but installing many addons will ultimately result in a slow browser and hence lower productivity.
Therefore this time I’ve decided to share a little hack to speed up your FireFox: SpeedyFox (currently Windows only)
Boost Firefox startup in up to 3 times!
Speed-up browsing history
Quicker operation with cookies
Just follow the steps:
- Close Firefox,
- Run SpeedyFox
- Select the profile you want to optimize and click "Speed Up My FireFox":

- Wait for a few minutes (longer if you’ve been actively using your browser long enough).

SpeedyFox is claimed to be absolutely safe for your profile (keeping all your bookmarks, passwords as well as other stored data).
Firefox uses SQLITE databases to store lots of its settings. By the time the databases grow and Firefox starts working slowly. SpeedyFox compacts those databases without loosing any data.

Thanks Ann, great little tool. I’ve noticed recently that with all of the development and seo plug-ins I have in my Firefox it is running so slow, so hopefully this will be the answer!
Thanks Ann.
I just installed this app and honestly didn’t expect much. Firefox is generally a big pain in the butt for me, but I need to use it sometimes (as much as it stresses me out). When doing any type of competitor analysis or link building all of the wonderful plugins available for FF are necessary.
I am pleasantly surprised to see that FF is now working as quickly as my Chrome (although I haven’t updated to v3 yet, but I hear it’s fast). It will truly be a miracle if I can go an entire day without FF crashing on me *crosses fingers*.
Thanks Ann! Appears to have made an immediate improvement :)
Nice info Ann, so i will try to use it. Thank you very much
I love Firefox for all the cool add-ons but hate how slow it is and also how it freezes and crashes when it wants (aaaarrrrggg).
I am going to try this out and ‘pray’ that it speeds up.
thanks
