Google Blogoscoped has a screenshot running of a new addition to Google Universal search which serves horizontal videos in the Google search results, freeing up more room for other results and taking full advantage of Google SERP white space.
The screenshot appears to be a Google Onebox serving specific media for different search queries, like videos for “Barack” or Google Shopping results for product information.
I am not able to view the changes myself, as Google seems to be testing to a small group before rolling it out, but here is a screenshot from Blogoscoped’s coverage : New Middle-of-page Google Onebox Type?

or Buzz it at Yahoo :

This is in essence, adding an Eleventh link to the SERPs.
They are saying that the Video results are not as important as the Website links so we will make them horizontal - so as to add an extra organic link.
Since Google relates two pages from the same domain when the results are on the same organic SERP, this horizontal option could only be done with videos as Link listings are too big long to do it

Interesting… I have to disagree with Miss Universe. Perhaps this is an attempt to test the reception of even more information (videos, text results, image results, etc.) in general. Perhaps in the future we’ll see results stacked side-by-side in a similar fashion.
