“Look Ma, no pager!” Scaling a WordPress Media Network Without Losing Your Sanity
When I was CTO of ABM, I learned the hard way how to efficiently on-board and manage both small sites and large sites. My hope...
I have spent most of my career trying to make annoying but important things less painful at scale: email, marketplaces, and now the administrative side of healthcare.
I started deep in the guts of enterprise email with Zimbra. I joined early, lived in the forums, talked to thousands of admins, and helped grow it into a product that eventually got acquired and shipped to millions of users. That experience taught me how important it is to listen to customers who live in your product every day, not just the people who sign the contracts.
After Zimbra, I helped start Acompli, a mobile email app focused on people who live in Outlook and Exchange. We raised money, shipped quickly, and ended up building what became Outlook Mobile after Microsoft acquired us. In parallel, we built highly secure versions of the product for government customers, where the margin for error is essentially zero. That mix of consumer-grade usability and serious security shaped how I think about product design to this day.
From there, I went deeper into marketplaces and operations at Instacart. Before I took the job, I signed up as a shopper so I could feel the product from the other side. It is one thing to look at dashboards. It is another thing to climb three flights of stairs with someone’s groceries and see where the app helps or gets in the way. That experience reinforced a simple idea: you cannot build for people you never bother to stand next to.
Today, I am the Co-Founder of Pretty Good AI. We are focused on taking routine, repetitive work off medical practices’ plates so doctors and staff can spend more time on patient care. Healthcare is full of smart, exhausted people, buried under systems that were never designed for how they actually work. I want to bring everything I learned from Zimbra, Acompli, Outlook, and Instacart into that world.
If you are building in healthcare, wrestling with workflow and compliance, or just trying to get more real work done with less chaos, I’d love to meet you and see if we can help.
