The Spy Who Clicked On The Australian Google Ad

Here’s a fun news item from TechDirt:

“The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation is testing out its latest recruiting method: buying job ads on Google. Seems a bit odd that a spy agency would use such a method to find potential spies… but, then again, the article doesn’t note what keywords they’re using.”

And from the originating article in in the Australian news:

“The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation has paid for a “sponsored link” on web search engine Google to find budding spies.

The spy agency’s link says: “Looking for a challenging career of national importance?”

The web ads are part of a wider campaign which also uses niche advertising targeting people from non-English speaking backgrounds.”
