Overture Offers Local Match Regional Advertising

July 1st, 2004 by Loren Baker, Editor | 2 Comments

Overture Services began offering advertisers on Monday the ability to target Web ads to their neighbors, local businesses, or anything within a half mile radius.

Overture’s Local Match allows advertisers to customize offers and promotions on the basis of communities, city names, and zip codes and have those ads presented on major Web sites.

Local Match gives advertisers “the ability to pinpoint a geographic surrounding their business (between 0.5 and 100 miles) in which they want their search listing to be shown,” the company said in a written statement.

Users can identify a neighborhood when they make their search request. If they don’t, Overture can also identify a visitor’s location by the address of the computer or from registration information the user may have given the Web site.

Pretty cool!

Not to say that you can place ads that have rumors about your neighbors on them, but if the little girl is setting up a lemonade stand, why not place some sponsored listings under the terms “lemonade” or “refreshments.”

Make that lemonade stand a Jiffy Lube click through with printable coupons, and you have something :)
