Seems like Lycos is making another search related change by changing their search results from AlltheWeb (FASTSearch, which is owned by Yahoo) indexing to Inktomi and LookSmart.
LookSmart’s directory continues to power some queries on Lycos. Sites can get listed in the LookSmart directory by using LookListing paid advertising or submitting non-commercial sites to the Zeal directory.
An Inktomi logo is now being shown when searches are performed on Lycos. The index being used, according to Search Engine Showdown “shows an Inktomi logo and uses the same Inktomi-based database as is seen at AltaVista and AlltheWeb. And that database appears to be but a subset of the version available at Yahoo! itself.”
With AllTheWeb and AltaVista now using the Inktomi Index as well, I wonder what will happen to their respectable search technologies, and if the best of each was put into the new Yahoo Search, which owns both companies.
