Google Shows Their Gay Pride in Search Results

June 18th, 2008 by Loren Baker, Editor | 8 Comments

Google is doing their part to celebrate gay pride and gay marriages in California with a new addition their search results for gay oriented terms; flying the gay pride flag between the organic search results and the Adwords search results on the right side of the serps.

A colleague sent me a screenshot he took when searching for gay marriage on Google.

Gay Google

Gay Google 2

Does this influence the click thru percentage of the sponsored Google Adwords listings? Perhaps.

From my AdSense days I learned that placing an image to the left of an ad increased click thru, by Google addressing a loyal target demographic with an emotional message, I’m sure the response is much better .. for clicks and advertisers.

This is troubling to me. I mean, what about American flag oriented searches? Where is the love for the flag?
Love your dogs? Dog owners, breeders groomers may like to see their subject honored so.
How about this Google, when I search for “patriots” I’d like to see a military theme.
    Fat chance huh?

that comment from MikeM is retarded; fat chance he’d benefit from an explanation. Patriotism includes the love for our gay brothers and sisters of America, as well as the flag. Honor your dog, Mike.

    meanwhile, back at the ranch…

Loren Baker, thank you for posting this

BTW Alanicu we prefer to be referred to as “mentally challenged”.
Now that you mention it us mentally challenged deserve similar recognition too. Unfortunately we don’t have a lobby backed by the ACLU and Google.

Not seeing this in my search results- does that mean Google doesn’t support gay rights in South Carolina, or just that Loren Baker is trying to trick me into getting gay searches into my Google search history so they deliver gay search results to me more often?

How does recognizing or supporting gay people against eons of institutionalized oppression during June (internationally recognized as Gay Pride Month) end up equating to a “troubling” lack of American patriotism?

Silly complaint. Not everything in the world is done is “for” or “against” your interests. It’s like music genres — rap, opera, country, punk, disco, whatever — it’s made to suit the people who appreciate it; everyone else can take what they want and ignore the rest without complaining.

So, you’re not gay, Mike M? Okay, then. Good for you. No need to be offended by rainbows. Why would you think that you’re being left out of something that you have no interest in?

”Yeah, dogs! USA! USA! Happy Pride! Thank you for defending country and for your sacrafices, Military!” It’s all good.
