Facebook Going Local?

Facebook Going Local?

Facebook’s Local Play? Is one coming? … yes, suggests MarketWatch’s Bambi Francisco in her column today. I spoke to her via email about it this morning. While MySpace isn’t “inherently” local, Facebook is — you have to be associated with a particular college to register (you can also be in high school).

Literally I believe you have to have a .edu email address to gain access. (In addition to being a student, you can also be faculty, staff or an alumnus and register.)

Facebook has the opportunity to create lots of highly desirable demographically and locally targeted ad inventory for marketers. There are roughly 15 million US college students, who spent about $230 billion in 2005 according to a survey by Alloy Media + Marketing.
