Tips for Content Marketing and Influencers: An Interview with Drew Hendricks

Recently in San Francisco, I interviewed freelance writer Drew Hendricks  on content marketing with influencers.

In the interview, Drew says the secret to building a reputation as a writer is to simply start your own blog to show off your voice and expertise while cultivating your own following. Eventually with perseverance and networking  you can work your way up to becoming a contributor for larger, more well known publications.

To find out more, watch the video below:

These are some key takeaways from the video:

  • To start, you must first work on your personal branding and voice, typically by starting your own blog. Once you have established a decent following, Drew says it’s a good practice to send an intro email with your credentials and examples of your writing to the publications to which you want to contribute. It’s all about fostering a relationship and proving that you are knowledgeable in your field and can provide great content.
  • Drew says that part of the process of building a fan base and becoming a contributor to other, larger sites is staying active on all of your social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, and any others that are relevant to you. Larger publications want to see that you will be able to help them gain new traffic and will benefit from your content being on their site.
  • Making connections by tweeting at, retweeting, and connecting on LinkedIn are some more inside tips that Drew has found helpful in his own career, and recommends that everybody try to network using these tools.

  1. Good subject and well executed. The main issue with the advice is for an entrepreneur to find the time to build their online persona / brand. Unfortunately many businesses use spam tactics to influence the online social community.
