Link Building

How to Get Links from Harvard.edu

If building links from .edu sites is something you find of value, for Google rankings or even to boost your site’s backlinks status, Cristian Mezei points to a Harvard.edu web project which makes getting a .edu link very easy.

The Harvard H2O Playlist Beta project lets users register an account and make a “Playlist” which points a link to their favorite site.

H2O playlists are more than just a cool, sleek technology — they represent a new way of thinking about education online. An H2O Playlist is a series of links to books, articles, and other materials that collectively explore an idea or set the stage for a course, discussion, or current event.

Thanks Crisitan, and thanks to Harvard!

Speak your mind!

  1. Well, isn’t it a resource being used for spamming?

I mean, if users were to set up legit playlists and list useful information, then such would be a resource.

For all that matters Cristian, wouldn’t Squidoo be SPAM?

  2. I created a profile myself. Cristian, why do you say it is spam? You disclosed it, people will certainly like to experiment to see how it works.

  3. Cristian IM’d me that he’d be offline for the weekend, but I think what he was getting at is that if you use it to build links, and not for its intended purpose, then such is spam.

Amongst SEO’s, the word spam is not always negative :)

  4. Nice tip, Loren.

Now it’ll be great if Google actually indexes the playlists.

Some of the playlists I’ve tested are not indexed.. though the ones on the homepage are. :)

  5. Harvard has put a “don’t index anything” robots.txt on this site because of this abuse. Thanks for crapping all over the web, SEO guys! You rawk!
