alan bleiweiss ebook 02 eBook Review: The Site Owner’s Guide to SEO for Content Writing by Alan BleiweissOne of our most awesome columnists you are most likely to be following, Alan Bleiweiss, has written an awesome eBook I have gone through and can absolutely open-heartedly recommend to our readers. The eBook is called The Site Owner’s Guide to SEO for Content Writing and you can grab your copy here.

Many of the recommendations found in the eBook come from a combination of SEO best practices and User Experience best practices:

Where a recommendation carries less value for SEO, it carries that much more value for usability.

Describing the Process

The guide clearly outlines the whole keyword selection and content creation processes:

  1. Keyword research:
    • Start by creating a seed list (be sure to consider the different segments of your audience);
    • Expand the list with help of keyword research tools;
  2. Creating a clear content structure:
    • Breaking content into categories;
    • Creating consistent title tag structure
    • Creating clear meta tag structure;
    • Building the organized subheading structure, etc
  3. (Internal) Content linking strategies and approaches:
    • Linking back to your own content;
    • Giving outbound links to trusted sources.
  4. Enriching content with additional phrases, media content as well as re-packaging content in other formats.

Going in-Depth

Apart from outlining the step-by-step process the guide also provides some very actionable and in-depth advice on very questionable issues:

  • Which are preferred title-tag separators and why;
  • How to link from main navigation or footer;
  • How to identify your brand through your content;
  • Which keyword frequency to stick to when creating content, as well as many other interesting points content creators always need help with.

Most importantly, the guide encourages you to get creative and write content for your users because…

SEO in 2011 is an art form as much as it is a science.

      1. “Frankly, I thought SEJ was about sharing SEM knowledge and tactics, not selling them. That’s what made SEJ such a hit in the first place – so that new and upcoming writers/SEO’s like myself can come here and gain knowledge without having to enter their credit card information. If you guys are really shifting your focus towards pitching SEO services for money (no matter how small the amount), then please update SEJ’s About Us page because it is the direct opposite of what you are doing here.”

      2. Bruce, lets calm a bit… I don’t think there is any problem with the book review and SEJ is selling or getting any profit of sell out of it (as far as I think). If there is a greatest content available somewhere and I really want people to look in to it so I can’t share it just because its paid and my post will be considered as a promotional content…I guess no, I should share it and let people know that this is the overview of what i read and if you want to read that too then buy from here… very ethical.

        The book review fits the topics what SEJ use to cover and from the review it seems like the book is worth buying!

      3. Bruce,

        As the eBook author, and a regular columnist here I’m going to weigh in. Ann wrote this article without my asking her to do so. And just to be clear – there’s no compensation involved.

        Even if this wasn’t about my guide, I’d still be able to confidently say that if you read enough articles across this industry, you’ll find many review articles – professionals reviewing books, tools, services – some free, some that cost a fee.

        Without review articles many people wouldn’t know one way or another whether something being offered is worthy of downloading, buying, or signing up for, given how many worthless or otherwise scam-like “solutions” there are out there.

        And given the sheer volume of non-review type content Ann generates on a regular basis, reviews from highly respected industry people are really helpful, whether anyone buys my book or not.

      4. Alan for a while i thought that this is some kind of book promotion here but now it’s clear. Thanks for clearing me and if any one hurts from my comments then sorry for that.

      5. That’s a valid point – it can be jarring when a trusted blog turns a corner into a completely different direction. Fortunately for all of us, Ann’s got no intention of abandoning her ability to offer amazing tips and how-to articles…

  2. Wow, I can’t believe in 2011 there are still people left who think all valuable information should be free. Ann, thanks for the review, and Alan, just bought a copy — $9.95 is a steal if I learn a single new thing.

    1. Brian,

      Dude! You’re a seasoned vet at this online thing – so I expect you won’t learn as much as you might instead get concepts reinforced… If you DO learn something though, that’s a big-time bonus in my book :-)

  3. I have read this eBook and It helps me a lot for optimizing my content. I didn’t know before how to write optimized content. Now, I can produce optimized content with the help of this ebook. Such a great ebook for content writers.
