The mobile landscape certainly continues to grow as we head into 2014. More than half of the U.S. population owns a smartphone (57%, according to a Pew study) and Americans are spending an average of two hours per day on their mobile devices.

With 8% of a person’s day spent looking a mobile screen, there is a huge opportunity for mobile marketers to find customers who are looking for local services, as well as m-commerce customers who want to make a purchase online through their smartphone or other mobile device.

After all, the mobile market will generate 35% more spending by 2015 compared to 2012: $400 billion versus $139 billion.

  1. From an ecommerce perspective, I really wish there were more indications as to what types of businesses and websites these stats come from. Knowing your audience is very key. Looking at the QR code statistic…I’ve done some testing with QR codes, but a combination of a website that is badly in need of a refresh (everything, not just mobile) and an audience that frankly can’t be bothered with things like QR codes, leads me to wonder just what type of business is seeing a 40% purchase rate using them.

  2. As the mobile users are keep on increasing, does that mean the desktop users will be decreased over the time? Not just marketing point of view but overall interaction.
