Organizing Successful Google+ Hangouts: Interview With Deborah Anderson

As part of our SEJ interview series, Deborah Anderson of MyBlogGuest joins us to discuss the ins and outs of organizing successful Google+ Hangouts.

Deborah is the Hangout host of MyBlogGuest and is very experienced when it comes to planning, organizing, and keeping a community engaged through the use of Google+ Hangouts.

You can hear some of her advice in the video below:

Here are some key takeaways from the video:

  • Deborah says the key is to plan well in advance and get the word out to people before the Hangout.
  • Another tip if you’re planning to do Hangouts a lot is to have a green room, Deborah says, which is a virtual area to send people to with instructions and requirements for the Hangout. Such as what kind of headset to use and other things like that. This is all key in producing a quality product.
  • Send the link out to people the day before the Hangout, Deborah says, so guests have plenty of time to prepare for it.
  • Deborah says she lets the MyBlogGuest community know about the hangout a month in advance in order to create buzz.
  • A Hangout allows for 10 users to join, so Deborah tailors her invites based on the topic of the Hangout, and who is covering that particular topic on MyBlogGuest.
