Google Analytics Pauses Account Sign Ups

Google Analytics Pauses Account Sign Ups

Due to the publisher demand of the free Google Analytics tool and Google’s lack of beta testing or limited accounts, Google has put a temporary halt on Google Analytics sign-ups, asking publishers to join a waiting list. Posted on the Google Analytics sign up page : “Google Analytics has experienced extremely strong demand, and as a result, we have temporarily limited the number of new signups as we increase capacity. In the meantime, please submit your name and email address and we will notify you as soon as we are ready to add new accounts. Thank you for your patience.

Google has caught a bit of flack for the Analytics launch which resulted in the slow delivery of statistics tracking results. However, being a free service with in-depth analytics tracking capabilities, in time publishers will probably forget about the initial Analytics problems.

Garrett Rogers of ZDNet comments that “With 234,725 Analytics accounts created (and probably over 200,000 additional profiles), Google has went from tracking zero to almost half a million in about a week. This is a huge amount of data to process. Anybody who has tried WebTrends knows the processing power Google will need to get all these accounts caught up.” For some insight on how Google Analytics is working for some publishers, and a look into the rants of disgruntled Google Analytics users, be sure to pay a visit to the Google Analytics Google Group.
