Google Brings Back Yelp Reviews in Updated Places Page

SMS Text

Over the weekend Google announced on their LatLong blog that they redesigned the look of the Places page. A couple of months ago we noticed that Google had removed Yelp reviews from search results, but were trying to find a way to work with the user generated review site to incorporate their content in Google search results. It appears that they have found a solution because in addtition to other sites, Yelp reviews are now back on Google.

In the updated Places pages users will see two sections: “Reviews from Google” and Revies from around the web”. On the latter you will find content from sites, such as Yelp, in its on sections with the inclusion of information that allows users to decipher the highest quality data in making their decisions. In the “Reviews from Google users” section, reviews from Google users that have been posted to Google Maps can be read and also you can write your own reviews.

I know of several businesses, including my own, who have had both negative and positive feedback removed for absolutely no known reason. What is it with Yelp! that makes them set up parameters which can decide which reviews to allow and which ones are not for public consumption. I certainly don't want any negative reviews to show up for me – but if that is what the person felt, then it should be shown and i should be able to respond appropriately – and maybe even change my business habits. Similarly, I want any of my customers to be able to tell others about how they feel about my business. I think Google SHOULD not allow them on their search as they do not seem to play fairly.
