Speak To Google’s Search App In Multiple Languages And It Will Now Understand You

More than half the world’s population speaks two or more languages, Google stated in a post on the Inside Search blog today. Google can now do a better job of keeping up, as the Google Search app on Android is now capable of understanding multiple languages.

The Google Search app will understand you no matter which language you choose to speak to it in. Previously you had to change your settings if you wanted to switch languages, but now you can seamlessly alternate between different languages. For example, you can search for nearby restaurants in English, then dictate a text to your friend in French.

With a small, one-time change to your settings, you can switch back and forth between languages easily. Google will automatically detect which language you’re using. There’s only one limitation — you need to stick to one language per sentence.

You can select up to five languages in total. Getting a spoken response from Google depends on the language you use and your query.

To try out the new multilingual voice search on your Android device just update the latest Google Search App (version 3.6) from the Play Store. Then once the update is installed, navigate to Google Settings from your device’s apps menu, tap Search & Now -> Voice -> Languages, and select your languages.
