Google AdSense Tests Images Blended in Text Ads

Google AdSense seems to be testing and experimenting with a new style of contextual advertisement which is a blend of image, text, and links to search results which integrates the 3 major offerings of the Google AdSense program into one advertising format.

Google has been blending images into the 120×600 AdSense skyscraper format on some sites which have image ads selected in their Google AdSense account. The image, which is inserted in the ad between the “Ads by Gooooooogle” text and the text ads themselves, is a 90px x 110px image with a size of 2.34 kb, according to Amit Agarwal of Digital Inspiration.

What’s so appealing about this new style is that the image is an ad itself. So publishers get best of both the world’s without doing any labor.

About the screenshot: This is 120×600 Adsense Format with Image Ads turned On. The image file dimensions are 90px x 110px with a size of 2.34 kb. The file is hosted on the Google Ads Server – googlesyndication.com

Here’s a screen capture which Amit has hosted on the blogger.com server:

Darren at ProBlogger.net adds that some of the images are pointing to Google ‘Link Unit’ type content:

“…the images link to a separate page with a list of AdSense keywords on it. I’m not sure what this means exactly but am interested to see these ads in action.”
