Book Review: “Affiliate Program Management: An Hour A Day” by Geno Prussakov

Affiliate Program Management: An Hour A DayAffiliate Program Management: An Hour A Day is a comprehensive book by the famous affiliate marketing pro Geno Prussakov (we have interviewed previously) containing a step by step guide on how to research, launch, manage, and grow a successful online affiliate marketing program.

Affilite marketing book - introductionIntroduction

The book has very strong introductory part that would make an awesome read for anyone who would like to get a clear and well-structured understanding of what affiliate marketing is and how it works.

This part explains:

  • The history of affiliate marketing: its origins
  • What it is and what it is NOT (Affiliate Marketing vs. Multilevel Marketing);
  • The structure of affiliate marketing (affiliates, subaffiliates, and superaffiliates);
  • Marketing channels and types of affiliates (Content publishing, couponing, data feeds, email marketing and paid search, etc)

Getting started - affiliate marketingGetting Started

The next few articles are focused on some actionable advice on how to get started with affiliate marketing:

  • What investment
    will be required to get it all rolling?
  • How can you expect to be paid (What
    compensation models are most popular, and how
    are other advertisers using them?)
  • How to evaluate and use affiliate networks (and what an affiliate network is);
  • How to choose a niche and how to study the competitive landscape;
  • How tracking and reporting works;
  • How to evaluate program management options (Autopilot vs. Proactive Management).

Here’s an abstract which I simply loved (great visualization and knowledge structuring method):

Five Pillars of Affiliate Program Management

I like to look at affiliate program management as I would at the façade of a building that rests
on five pillars. This is because, in essence, every affiliate program manager should be expected to manage the program on the following five levels: recruitment, activation, policing, communication, and optimization.

Setting Your Affiliate Program Up

This section looks into further steps to becoming a professional affiliate marketer:

  • Developing creative inventory;
  • Setting up data feeds (and the related plug-ins);
  • Working on program description page;
  • Developing program policies.

The section is followed by even more actionable tips on affiliate program management, deadliest mistakes to avoid, etc. The book impressive contents is also enhanced by glossary of abbreviations and index of terms.

Affiliate marketing ebook

All in all, like I said, the book is a must-have for anyone who plans to dig into affiliate marketing or just want to structure their knowledge.
