The 12 Days of SEO Christmas

Did you know that the earliest lyrics for the “The 12 Days of Christmas” were found in a 1780 children’s book entitled Mirth without Mischief? Originally published under the title The Twelve Days of Christmas sung at King Pepin’s Ball, the English Christmas Carol has become a favorite standard played throughout the holidays. But, what on Earth is this song about? What do turtle-doves and a partridge in a pear tree have to do with Christmas?

Back when the lyrics were written, the items listed were traditional things found in locations like the Bible. These items were used to create a “counting rhyme” for children. Despite the myths that you may have read, “The 12 Days of Christmas” is not an ‘underground catechism song’ for persecuted Catholics in Protestant England. Over the years, however, artists has put their own spin on the traditional carol. Everyone from Burl Ives, Alvin & The Chipmunks, The Muppets with John Denver and Jeff Foxworthy’s “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” are just several of the varied versions that you’ve probably heard at some point.

In the 21st Century, however, the items listed in this familiar “counting rhyme” are almost complete nonsense. So, why not give the lyrics a modern rendering? Something that obviously involves SEO. If you’re ready, you’re about to witness another classic rendition of “The 12 Days of Christmas” with “The 12 Days of SEO Christmas”.

OK, it probably won’t be played at the mall while you’re shopping or when the kids are visiting Santa. But for anyone involved with SEO, we think that you’ll enjoy our spin on the classic Christmas carol.
