Yahoo’s Results Now Officially Come From Bing

Just last week Yahoo announced that it had started transitioning it’s back-end technology in the U.S. and Canada (English) for Yahoo! Search over to the Microsoft platform and today statements were released on both Yahoo’s Search blog and Bing’s site that all free, organic search results are now powered by Bing.

Senior VP, Shashi Seth said in the official YSearch announcement:

“Yahoo! Web, Image, and Video search experiences on both desktop and mobile devices are now powered by the Microsoft platform in the US and Canada (English), with more markets to come.”

Also in the article he posts a link to Microsoft’s blog where their VP, Satya Nadella, talks about what we can expect in the near future from this partnership. “We continue to work hard on the migration to adCenter, and are optimistic about completing this phase later this fall. As we have said all along, our primary goal is to provide advertisers with a quality transition experience in 2010, while being mindful of the holiday season.”

At the beginning of this year, Nielsen reported that Yahoo! controlled just over 14% of the search market, with Bing just behind it at close to 10%. With these two engines combining they will now hold approximately a quarter of the search market – that’s nothing to shrug at. Even though Google is more than double that amount, at close to 70%, the Yahoo-Bing merger is becoming stiff competition.

Try it out for yourself: just perform a search on Yahoo and check for the “Powered by Bing” message at the very bottom.
