Yahoo has come out with a new tool for incorporating Flickr and other regional tags into a mapping system, Yahoo TagMaps.
We’ve seen this with Flickr mashups in the past, but it’s nice to see that Yahoo is taking the extra step in incorporating these Maps full of Flickr Tags & Photos into their Trip Planner, publisher sites and other vertical services.
TagMaps is a toolkit to visualize text (well, tags) geographically on a map. Check out the sample applications [link below], where we use Flickr tags on a map to build a world exploration tool.
TagMaps is available(L) as a Flash component for your own website. The tags input to the visualization can be drawn from your own application - or use the data API(L) of one of our sample applications.

I’ve developped a similar application but using the videos hosted at Youtube showed on a map. You can see it at http://www.frangarcia.net/mapstube/showmap.php and let me know your suggestions

I’d like to also add that the local search marketing avenues this opens is amazing.
Bars, restaurants, local stores and other venues can upload locally tagged pics or incentive their patrons to do so and hope to appear more often in such Yahoo local or TagMap results and of course, since Flickr photos rank highly in search, linking back to their establishment’s site on these Flickr listings will benefit in traffic AND seo.
