Yahoo Raising Search Submit Prices Inclusion Prices?

I just receievd a message from a colleague that Yahoo has raised their Yahoo Search Submit (Paid Inclusion) price by more than 100%, without first notifying the ‘advertiser’. The company was informed that their clicks have been raised in their vertical from less than 50 cents to over $1… after the fact. [Apparently they were not notified, I'm not sure if others were or not]

Is this happening to you too? I have not read any news on the change, but will be sniffing around the forums looking for other examples. In the meantime, here’s a snippet of an explanation of how Yahoo Search Submitworks from none other than Oilman :

Simply put it is a pay for inclusion program that guarantees review for inclusion in the Yahoo natural search results (Search Submit Basic). Additionally you can pay for on a flat rate cpc basis to gain more control over how and when your site is indexed and how fresh your organic search listings are (Search Submit Pro). Of course, there are no guarantees.

    I was notified, however, I only had a $0.03 increase. 100% increase? That’s rough!

  • Joseph says:

    No I dis-agree.
From time time Yahoo does increase their prices, but advertiser are notified long before this happens.
Plus if your already in contract these new prices will not kick in until your contract expires.

Yep. No damaging increase for me either. I am happy with Yahoo! :)

  • Loren,

The rate increase happened last year in October, but as Joseph mentioned, they will only kick in when your annual contract comes up for renewal.

Further, not all verticals were affected, including ours… yeah!!!

FYI… I was told that this was the first increase in nearly three years, which means most clicks have remained EXTREMELY cheap when considering many alternatives (AdWords ahem…).

I haven’t heard of specific rate increases yet, but I honestly would caution anyone against even using SSP. I suppose I’m a purist, but I’d rather pay the money on either Yahoo! Search Marketing or invest in time working on my SEO strategy.

  • Roger says:

It fails me why someone would pay money to get included in to Yahoo serps.. they hardly give you any traffic!!

  • therapy says:

don’t they know that entire world is down with recession and why any one will pay exatra to get into yahoo.

I search on Yahoo everyday. I don’t like when information is put out online as fact, with no actual basis. The old saying is believe nothing of what I read and half of what I see.

  • We have not faced the hike for any of our sites – perhaps we will when they are due for renewals.
