Yahoo Japan Makes News Search Acquisition

Yahoo Japan is buying the news search and clipping service NewsWatch, Inc. from Toshiba reports Forbes. Yahoo Japan will be purchasing 69 percent of the 89 percent stake Toshiba holds in NewsWatch.

Other NewsWatch investors include Dentsu Inc (the massive Japanese advertising company), Toppan Printing Co Ltd and Mitsui and Co (which is a major investor in Feedster).

Yahoo Japan’s parent company Softbank also recently purchased the Japanese leg of Vodafone, so expect some innovative mobile search and news initiatives in the Japanese search market from Yahoo & Vodafone.
