Yahoo Beefs Up Image Search Index to 1.5 Billion Images, Adds Shortcuts

Yahoo Beefs Up Image Search Index to 1.5 Billion Images, Adds Shortcuts

Yahoo has spiced up Yahoo Image Search with a larger index of up to 1.5 billion images and some new features such as transformed queries, and integration of a Yahoo Image shortcut into the normal Yahoo Search tool. The Yahoo Image Search engine will automatically detect terms that better fit the user’s query through advanced search triggers, returning results filtered accordingly. For example, a search for black and white pics of tiger would return black and white images of a tiger.

Example: Black and White Pics of a Tiger

Yahoo! Direct Display Enhancement & Shortcut for Image Search Results – When performing a search on Yahoo! Search for “John Lennon photos”, results will include Web search results, several image search results and a shortcut to image search.

Example: John Lennon Photos. Try searching on Yahoo for other terms with the word “photos” in the query.

Email to a Friend- When a user clicks on an Image Search result, he/she can email it to a friend by clicking on the link to the right of the image.

Yahoo Image Search has expanded its index and added these new search functions just as other search engines are ramping up their Image Search offerings. Google is adding Image Search into the search results for some basic terms like Lion and even “Where’s The Beef?”. Yesterday, MSN and PicSearch announced that they are working together to provide Image Search results to the new MSN Search.
