Yahoo and TiVo Hook Up
In a play to expand its Internet Media network from desktops and into the livingroom, Yahoo has penned a deal with TiVo which will integrate Yahoo into TiVo boxes. The New York Times reports that the new agreement will allow TiVo users to connect to the Internet via Yahoo while TiVo can market Yahoo’s content, news, and search services to its users.
Yahoo has put up a page on scheduling recordings via Yahoo for the TiVo Series2 DVR where from any Yahoo TV episode page, members of this service can just click “Record to my TiVo box”. In order to use the Yahoo TiVo service, however, one must have a Yahoo account (Yahoo Email) and a TiVo Series 2 DVR.
What about all of those rumors about Google buying TiVo? Looks like Yahoo’s new partnership has squashed those. Nick at ThreadWatch comments “Surprise surprise! While you might expect Google to buy TiVo, Yahoo, true to form, will simply integrate with it. Smart Move.”

Wow! This is pretty cool. I’ve suspected that the merging of TV and internet was being stalled by unseen forces, but it looks like it’s moving right ahead! I guess it was just a matter of getting the dollars and cents right. I’m posting a link to this article on my blog at http://www.pdxtc.com/wpblog
