LB, your story has a few holes in it.

First, Yahoo! never was and will never be a search engine. That's their problem. Buying Goto didn't help either. They were the original portal and should have stuck with that. So your theory that Apple could buy Yahoo! to add a search engine is flawed. Apple is smarter than that.

Second, Infoseek WAS a search engine. No human intervention ever played a role. Go.com was an ill conceived attempt by Eisner to compete with Yahoo! by using Disney's content assets that had greater brand value than Yahoo!'s channels.

I do agree with you that Infoseek was ahead of its time, specifically because it tried to stick to search (before Go.com) and it pioneered Behavioral Targeting.

You can't talk about go.com without talking about Patrick Naughton!

I think there has been so much speculation on the Microsoft front that THAT deal is just jynxed by now so that most likely wont happen but you never know. Yahoo can get real desperate real soon and budge on what Microsoft will give them.

Nevertheless, you make some excellent points on the Apple front which will do wonders for the iPhone and lets not forget, all apple computers which will increase Yahoo search market share and boost Apple stock.
