People in America need to realize jus what got America in this shape…”cheap” yes so-call cheap items from a foreign land.

quote*Wal-Mart firmly believes in local procurement. We recognize that by purchasing quality products, we can generate more job opportunities, support local manufacturing and boost economic development. Over 95% of the merchandise in our stores in China is sourced locally. We have established partnerships with nearly 20,000 suppliers in China. *end quote!

Now! if there be 182 country’s making items for the world to buy and they have only 5% of the pie in China…duh! This company makes the nice people of China support their currency(yuan) by keeping it in their country working for the people there…. but with the “yuan” going up in value and the US dollar going down…all the foreign items that the American consumer buys thinking it is cheap has went up in price.

People…its all about the currency and to keep a currency strong you got to keep it floating around the country you live in so it can work for you. For the past 12 years all them US dollars are being shipped overseas to a foreign bank and with the American worker not making anything for the foreigner to buy the “we the people” have to turn to the “second” largest employer in America(Uncle Sam) to sell “we the people” debt in order to get all them dollars back!

50 years ago a foreigner would had given their left nut for a US dollar or a Hershey’s chocolate bar and today the same foreigner has got Uncle Sam and the American consumer by both all the while Hershey is moving the chocolate factory to Mexico. Wake up! America and think “MADE IN AMERICA.”

quote*"Considering that there are over 30,000 ships at sea this morning," writes James Carlton, director of the Williams College-Mystic Seaport Maritime Studies Program, in an e-mail, "the total number of organisms and species in this global 'bioflow' on the morning your readers read your piece could be staggering - billions of individuals, and thousands of species."

Indeed, scientists have long considered ballast water the primary way invasive aquatic organisms are introduced. From the zebra mussel's arrival in the Great Lakes, to an American jellyfish severely disrupting Black Sea fisheries, the potential costs of accidental introduction of a species to new homes can be tremendous. Aquatic invasives cost the US $9 billion yearly, according to estimates by David Pimentel, professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Zebra and quagga mussels (a cousin to the zebra) alone cost the $1 billion annually.*end quote!

tat is $9 billion a year in hidden taxes to all Americans...
cheap ain't chic and it cost America............jobs!

I agree that union versus non-union is not a topic of this discussion. But Wal-Mart is sure getting its "buzz" from their stance. Free publicity...maybe their marketing department is smart to get us all involved in talking about them! And yes, I have waited in a 5:00 A.M. line for that low priced portable DVD player, I must admit.

My dad's a longshoreman. His father was one. In fact a large majority of my family were or currently are. They're all VERY HARDWORKING and supported an large families both during and after the depression. So please let's try to remove ourselves from union discussion and take it elsewhere. This is a comment board about links, not about politics.

Thanks!

walmart doesnt want there ads posted yet, that sucks, but nothing we can do about it, but ill bet your butt will be at walmart wanting one of their nice tvs at a bargain price wont you (i will be), im currently in the military, im from the south, and we dont have the union down here, thats why our land and taxes are so cheap. in the past unions were a great help to our society and the workforce, however, it has gotten way out of control and now its mostly comprised of a bunch of lazy people who dont want to work, i know, ive worked with them as a soldier, and let me tell you, it doesnt take 40 people ( yes 40, literally) to operate one forklift at a seaport, 39 of those people were making probably about 30 bucks an hour to do nothing, what do you think is the ripple effect of this waste of money on unnecessary labor??? wlamart will never be unionized and thats exactly the way it should stay, or do you want to pay 29.99 for a dvd the day it comes out at sam goody ???

Perhaps this is all a publicity stunt and Wal-Mart is way smarter than any of us could even assume. Not only are they getting links from black friday coupon sites, but now they're getting links from the NY-Times. Good Job Wal-Mart.

With that being said, I hope to god people stand up and start unionizing now that the Bush regime is lame duck.

I've been a union member for more than thirty five years, I served in the military and after I got out and went back to school and the civilian sector, some I agree are lazy and want to make easy money but what about those of us who've serve this country, have a college education, have a career, never late for work, try to be an asset to their company and all you hear is I want more from the hard working individual while they get less in return never mind recognition, thats why I rely on union backing who speak and fight for those who can't speak or fight for equal pay and benefits on their own, the only working environment that I trusted working in without the support of the union was the military, Wal-mart can do better where their employee are concern, if they treat their employees with dignity the way Sam Walt did when they started out it would be a great place to shop and a great working environment for their employees. DON'T KNOCK THE LITTLE PEOPLE THAT PROVIDE US WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE, not everyone is college material, that does not make them less intelligent or lazy.

I worked at Walmart (neighborhood market) for 3 years after I got out of the Marine Corps. I used the GI bill and working 3 nights a week to put myself through college. I actually got good raises, and I was happy there.

The problem with America is we have become complacent. We think we can graduate high school and get a job at an autombile factory or Walmart and we should be set for life. No, that is the reason for getting an education so you don't make a career out of Walmart. I think Walmart is great for young people looking for a temporary job or part time work, but if you are looking to make a career out of it, then that says a lot about your drive in life. The same reason that the automobile industry is going down will be the same for Walmart should they start providing comparable benefits as other great jobs. This is why prices are so much higher in California stores (where there is unionized labor). We have become a lazy country that doesn't want to work.
