YouTube should provide a page on their site that the DNS entry for utube.com would open. This page would have two click-throughs: One for utube.com, and another to Youtube.com. Thus, the excess load from typos would be borne by the YouTube server farm, and only intended utube.com customers would access the original site.

I would think that getting their business “back up and running” — which relies upon access to this web site due to their global nature — would be their first order of business. This company has been in business for many years and has all of their advertising, company products, etc.. referencing this utube.com address. This isn’t something that can be changed overnight and without cost. I don’t blame them for focusing on the business and a resolution for that rather than turning their attention toward “capitalizing” on thie “opportunity”.

I would definitely turn it into an AdSense haven. They might try to take Google to court over it but I doubt they would win because their name is not “UTube” but Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment. Get a new domain (they should have had others already) and capitalize on the fact that they still have utube.com to drive traffic to YouTube while earning additional revenue at the same time.

Oh My God!!! With a CTR of 5% at a click of 15 cents (Yahoo pays more that that!) I could have retired. Doesn’t sound like they capitalized on the opportunity.
