Charging for API access could eliminate many of the best third party functions – many of which exist specifically because of deficiencies that Twitter could easily fix – like adding a search box. That should have been done long ago.

I posted the obvious way that Twitter and any other Social Networking site should be providing a service for which advertisers would flock to pay them. That post is linked from this comment. I’d love to hear input from all interested parties.

How they derive these numbers can’t be based on any hard data, I get the feeling they use the same accountants that worked for WorldCom.

What is that actually based on? Is it all what they think a site would pay to buy it? The value of the traffic?

If they charge for API access, I see them making some $ right now, but as for other rev streams, not sure…
