No doubt information is piling up on the internet and compelling user to spend much time with it. This in turn forcing traditional advertising feeble. Time is the factor and direct contact with the reader is more pronounced in case of web advertising. Its nice article.

Agree with Kevin. In 2009, Facebook and Twitter marketing are generating a huge buzz. PPC and SEO are becoming two basic components of marketing campaigns.
marketing is marketing. Like everything else it continues to evolve. I started out writing press releases and mailing them out. Then we started using fax machines...then email, then quite with press releases all together. Any agency that wants to stay alive evolves. One day PPC and SEO will be traditional. iPhone apps or something else will take their place.

Traditional marketing is continually shrinking, and the rate will continue to increase.

The fact of the matter is, today's generation does not interact much with traditional marketing channels compared to digital ones.

This new generation doesn't use newspapers to get their information, doesn't rely on snail mail to communicate.

As a result the decline of traditional marketing is inevitable because their user base is rapidly dwindling.

Combine that with digital media's enormous advantage of being able to measure almost everything, and the weakness of traditional media is made apparent.

The growth of digital media is somewhat slowed by some of the dinosaurs leading certain companies. Once they are removed, digital media will increase at an even faster rate.

Lokes, ya, I think when you look at real results, you can't factor out serendipity. It works the other way too- sometimes something you couldn't have known or predicted shortcircuits your success. Like the joke goes... want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans.

Nice analogy. Ultimately you have included "luck" into the constituents of best marketing.

Nice article. I did come from traditional advertising (Newspaper, Yellow Pages, and Trade Publications). The points you have mentioned in this article are the exact reasons I now focus 90% of my efforts towards internet or "trackable" marketing.

When I sold newspaper advertising I realized that most of my small business clients had no clue as to what was working for them and what wasn't. I think once small business owners realize that internet marketing is not expensive, it is a no-brainer for them to shift.

In terms of the larger companies and ad agencies...well, I wrote a post "Were the Super Bowl Ads a Super Failure" as soon as the big game ended. It sums up my feelings towards traditional advertising agencies.
