Thai Coup D’etat Blog Coverage
Today marked the first Thai coup d’etat in almost 20 years as the Thai military, with the permission of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, took over the government and will set up interim leadership until a new Prime Minister can be elected.
While Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was in New York attending UN sessions, the Thai military bloodlessly overthrew the Thaksin regime, suspending the 1997 constitution and taking over the existing nationally run broadcasting stations.
Two years ago this would not have turned many heads in the online community, but now is the age of citizenship journalism and the Blog Herald points to some bloggers who are covering the peaceful coup.
Included in the coverage are some citizen video journalists documenting the Thai constitutional cycle as it turns, and sharing their footage on YouTube.
