well said Mate. I am not sure why would any one have to make two accounts when professional life and personal life is linked to gather and has very thin road ways. Though i have seen few people making too profiles and its kind of hectic to have 2 profiles. Facebook surely rocks for social and professional networking but as i said earlier no there is no competition for linkedin.

Cheers Mate

"What about the timeframe and the amount of time that would probably better spent working on ONE blog?"

It really depends on what your business strategy is. It may be totally a waste of time for one person and the best thing ever to another.

Personally, I am happy to fill out every profile on each of these sites that I can. It's free, you only fill it out once and people will see it for years.

I don't understand why so many complain about this and don't see what a valuable tool it can be (depending on your business strategy).

I do see though that you can spend a lot of time on these social networks and then feel a bit guilty. Time Management is the solution!

@ Malte : Updating my contacts one time brought me a pretty good business deal.

For references, I always tell people to look at my LinkedIn recommendations.

I've also signed a client who spends 5 figures per month who cited my LinkedIn account as one of the reasons for choosing my company.

Needless to say, you never know how people will research you or what their standards are. For some, it's image results on Flickr, for others, the wealth of one's LinkedIn account.

Plus, it takes about 30 minutes a week to update an account. HUGE ROI in my opinion.

I opened a LinkedIn account about two weeks ago because I figured it couldn't hurt my prospects for when the time comes to begin looking for a new job. I was surprised how many people I knew on there already. But now that it's a couple weeks later and I've hardly used it, all I can think is "Do a really need ANOTHER freaking social network membership?". I can't even keep up with the ones I have already. Anyone else feel burnt out on social networks?

You have 400 connections on LinkedIn and seem to invest a lot of time to manage them and still that has brought you just one business deal. Would you still say, its worth is?
