September 11th & Google
Google Operating System, one of my favorite blogs on and about Google, took the time to remind us today how the Google homepage covered the September 11th attacks 5 years ago.
In an effort to help web users find more information on exactly what was happening in the US at the time, Google supplied users with quick links to Washington Post, Yahoo News, CNN, ABC and NY Times along with Yahoo News Photos … displaying the importance of the spread of information and help for those in need of finding such info online.
Here is the screen capture from Google Operating System :

Philipp also points to a Google report on 9/11 Search Statistics:
Among the top 200 queries on Tuesday, news-related searches were 60 times greater than the number of news-related searches conducted the previous day.
More than 80 percent of the top 500 queries conducted on Tuesday were related to the terrorist attacks.
At 6:51 a.m. on Tuesday, more than 6,200 queries for “cnn” were conducted on Google. Between 6:26 a.m. and 7:06 a.m., the number of searches for “cnn” averaged approximately 6,000 queries per minute.
