so long as reporting is only done in genuine spam cases and not in competitive malice then everything is hunky dory

I will not report either my competitors or clients.. i guess google tries to purnish the smaller companies but put a blind eye on big companies that go against their guidelines…

I have reported sites and I’ll do so again when it’s clear that Black Hat tactics are heavily used. I once reported a site using Black Hat and misuse of branded names: it had disappeared from the listing in 24h. This site could not have derived any traffic from my client’s site but it was a bad user experiment (the site had no appropriate content). I’ve noticed that unless there is clear offence to Guide Lines, it has no immediate impact.

Great point about the differences in search blogs Loren.

Barry covers forums and even SEW and SEL have very different writing styles. SEJ and Marketing Pilgrim are pretty much different in style as well.

Our own blog opts not to cover any SEM industry news since so many others have it nailed down.
