I disagree with this article entirely. If I were a google engineer I would rather show no results than show spammy ones.

I meant to reply to this but I was traveling and the blog ate the comment from my iPhone. Essentially, the entire premise of this article is wrong. :)

Google’s policy is that if there are two real results and five spammy results, we want to show only the two real results. We do not want to show seven results if five of them are spammy.

As long as Google places most of its ranking weight on the anchor text of back links to pages we will continue to have a spammy lopsided list of SERPs.

I mean they want to have people report paid link buyers for god’s sake. How sad is that.

Doumiao, that is one conclusion to draw. More content on a spam site will probably end up with more indexed pages, and thus have a larger chance of longtail keywords being produced that Google has little or no index for.

Tyler, this article was written to point out the duality of Google. Spammers use a lot of the same methods to build links as legitimate webmasters. Blog commenting and forum posting are two of those methods which can be done legitimately or in spammy ways.
