#Pinterest Makes Top 50 Website List

Pinterest has finally made it into the top 50 most visited websites in the United States, according to comScore, with just over 25.3 million visitors in the month of September. It should not take long for the social pin-board site to surpass MySpace, Instragram, and Tumblr sitting at 47, 44, and 42 respectively. LinkedIn and Twitter rank at 26 and 27, just shy of 40 million visitors in September.

According to Marketing Land:

Pinterest has been growing dramatically for at least a year, but its recent growth is no doubt being fueled by the site’s decision in August to open registration to anyone, no invitation required.

The Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project recently estimated that 12 percent of all Internet users use Pinterest, including 19 percent of all female internet users. The company’s recent mobile app upgrades should continue to drive adoption and usage.

Combine this information with a Shopify case study released in the spring, and there is a strong case for e-commerce brands to include Pinterest in their holiday marketing mix.

“Shopify tracked merchants in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia from September 2011 through April 2012. The sales figures showed that Pinterest users spent more money – an average of $80 per order – than customers who came through other networks like Facebook and Twitter,” reported Devon Glenn.

At the close of October, will you be able to take advantage of the traffic-driving power of Pinterest to entice holiday shoppers?
