MySpace becomes biggest referrer to Viagra.com

No, not really. But more than half of MySpacers are over 35 according to a study from comScore. That’s a wake up call. Although Pete Cashmore from Mashable thinks that statistic is irrelevant

But just even though most users are aged 35 or over, I’m willing to bet the most active users are still the under-35s – advertisers will continue to use MySpace to reach the younger demographic.

I would agree that younger kids are probably the more active users but that doesn’t mean advertising is limited to them. With two-thirds of MySpace users over the age of 25 this is a gold mine for advertisers to reach beyond the younger crowd. And if you look closely at the study MySpace is actually losing ground with the under 25 users, almost 15% in a year. Is it finally losing its cool? Facebook, on the other hand looks like the place to be if you want to the under 25 demographic.
What’s surprising is that users over the age of 35 are pretty active across all the social networks that were included, and that statistic is on the up. It will be interesting to watch how some of the advertisers targeting that demographic approach this.
