The State of Florida has launched a controversial new site which lets school students and parents check on the disciplinary histories of public school teachers.
MyFloridaTeacher.com (not Firefox compliant but according to the local news has attracted over 600,000 visitors this week) is powered by the searchable database of the Florida Department of Education Bureau of Professional Practice Services, and reports on actions taken up to and including revocation of teaching licenses.
The Bureau of Professional Practices Services investigates complaints and wrongdoings by Florida teachers.
The information is public record, but Department of Education has made the information easily accessible by any Internet user.
Teacher wrongdoings available on the site range from DUI’s to sexual misconduct to the trafficking of cocaine. If anything, MyFloridaTeacher.com may have opened up a can of worms for the State of Florida as parents are now questioning how some of these teachers can still be working with their children.

Since I am in Florida I am going to test it right now!
well…since FL seems to be the #1 state for “hot” female teachers having “affairs” with teens…this is probably overdue
It’s surprising to me how our children are taught about proper use of language yet the teachers teaching them use whatever language they want. I recently went to our school principal because of my ESE child comming home upset at something his teacher said to the class. There was no action taken against her, But I garantee you if it was my child, he would have been disciplined. What is wrong with this picture? Are we going to continue to let our teachers get away with this?
imbriana
April, how do you know your child is telling the truth?
By the way April, you spelled “coming” and guarantee wrong.
Are we going to let parents get away with blatent ignorance? :)
You see April, teachers are subject to false accusations by children who get angry with us and unfortunately parents like you buy into it.
Why am I not surprised you cant even spell?
By the way, Tom, you spelled blatant wrong. Why am I not surprised?
April,
You are an idiot. Maybe you are ESE too.
How about this site! with all the insults thrown about I see why our children do this in the classrooms. I agree that this site is very helpful for the most part however, teachers are ordinary people too. We are expected to live the life of saints on and off the clock. This is unfair. We have problems at home, we get upset in the public like everyone else and their life isn’t put on the web for the world to judge and critique. Like I said, I do agree with the site but, if it doesn’t involve our children or the value and quality of learning then some teachers should not be put on front street(so to speak).
