MSN Spaces Policy Addresses Government Blog Content Complaints

In light of the controversy over Google, Yahoo and MSN search censorship in China and MSN recently deleting the MSN Spaces blog of a popular Chinese blogger who rubbed Chinese government censors the wrong way.

During the incident Microsoft’s responded : “Microsoft operates in countries around the world,in line with Microsoft practices in global markets, MSN is committed to ensuring that products and services comply with global and local laws, norms, and industry practices.”

Their update to the MSN Spaces policy reads in the same manner :

Microsoft’s new MSN Spaces policy states that the company will remove content when it “receives a legally binding notice from the government indicating that the material violates local laws” or when the content violates MSN contract terms. When it does take down content, it will only be done in the country issuing the order, and the company said it will also “ensure that users know why that content was blocked.”
