MSN Hotmail Rumored to Be Upgrading

June 23rd, 2004 by Loren Baker, Editor | 3 Comments

An alledged internal memo from Microsoft has been leaked to the press and unveils that MSN has some big changes planned for HotMail in the upcoming months. The release is supposed to be released to the public soon, but Search Engine Journal investigative scouts found out from undisclosed sources that MSN is planning to beef up it’s HotMail accounts in fear of an email onslaught from Google’s GMail [and it’s 1GB of memory] and Yahoo Mail, which revamped its mail service last week.

The new Hotmail is rumored to offer the following:

Free Hotmail service:
250 meg of storage and 10 meg attachments
30 day expiration if no activity
Antivirus scan and clean

Hotmail Plus! service:
Annual Fee (non-disclosed)
2 gig of storage [double the size of free GMail] and 20 meg attachments
No expiration
No advertisements
Pop3 settings
AntiVirus

According to the circulated and leaked memo, the MSN Hotmail changes are planned to take effect late summer or fall.
