Microsoft’s Bill Gates Blasts Google
Brian Glick of the UK’s Computing had the chance to discuss the threat of Google to Microsoft during an interview with Bill Gates. According to Glick, even though Gates respects Google as a competitor and serious company, Gates was dismissive about the Google threat to Microsoft. The Bill Gates view on Google as a non-search competitor is priceless (perhaps Steve Ballmer has been briefing Bill on his Google-blasting etiquette).
“Which Google products are you talking about? Seriously? Other than search, which are you talking about? Google Talk? Wow. A total “me too” product. Even Gmail – what is the unique thing?”
Gates added; “The idea of development tools, a natural interface, productivity software – Google is not in any of those categories. People are acting as if they will magically be in these other categories with something more than a ‘me too‘ offering. It is kind of fun that people underestimate what we are going to do here.”
Gates also commented that Google can be beat by their own game, web search : “‘We need to surprise people and do a search that is way better than Google, and we are very on top of that.”
And about Google being the darling of the press : “Google is great, they are smart people, the press should continue to feed their arrogance as much as possible..”
“They [Google] say they are going to organize the world’s information. Well, we don’t think that is our job. We think you need to get tools to editors and subject experts to let them organize the world’s information. There is a bit of a philosophy difference here. The only sure winner is the consumer.”
Darn right! Go Bill! There has never been anything original about many of Google’s offerings. It’s about time a senior, well respected innovator stands up and speaks about it.
Google has done a fantastic job, and has a much better aspect to research and development than Microsoft. Google has got where it is through excellence, rather than using an illegal monopoly. Besides, what innovation has Bill Gates produced? Everything that Microsoft has done can be traced back to somebody elses original idea. It’s a pity Bill doesn’t use the same argument concerning his own business.
Bill is shockingly true i mean gmail is good but google talk is absolutly crap compared to its competitiors skype/msn. there sre no offical plans for gooogle os so the the thought that people have about googleOS is wrong as google has never even mentioned about creating a os so…….
Google’s real product, apart from search, is persuasion.
Apart from creating the best search engine out there, Google has – unlike Microsoft – succeeded in winning over both the hearts and minds of its users, clients and investors.
I’d be surprised if Google couldn’t leverage the massive goodwill they have built into whatever future product they would care to launch.
I think again Mr.Gates are correct in his wiew! It is very comman to “GOOGLE” a person by name! You get everything!From out of date list”s to the most banal up to date list.My friends are afraid of
getting there names on the net because of Google.
Google is s strictly one horse pony.
There isn’t even ONE Google product outside search that has come anywhere near close to being the market leader at anything.
While Microsoft Hotmail has to the tune of nearly 300 million users worldwide, Google Gmail can’t even come close to just 10 million users, if even that.
Google Talk is a far, far distant also run to the dominant Microsoft MSN messenger, and Yahoo instant messenger.
In fact Google has abysmally failed at every single market they have entered apart from their original search, and Microsoft and Yahoo are busy closing up on Google even in their own search backyard.
When it comes to money, Microsoft is making more money in just ONE quarter than Google makes in in THREE years.
While search accounts for nearly all of Google’s income, search accounts for less than 1% of Microsoft’s income, and Google is a total no show where Microsoft makes most of its money, like in Windows, Windows Server, Office, SQL Server Exchange, BizTalk Server, Microsoft Business Solutions, XBOX etc.
Where is Google’s CRM, ERP, SQL and Exchange Servers, XBOX 360 at?
Google is about as relevant to Microsoft as a worm!
