Crowdstorm is a yet to be released new social shopping website that allows you to research products, read other people’s opinions on products and see what’s hot. A unique thing about Crowdstorm is the way they have been marketing their company. Unlike most companies they are not waiting for launch to start marketing their product. Crowdstorm has been using their blog as a key component to kick start their buzz.
With most new web services, companies blog about what they are and what they do right around the time that they launch to the public. Crowdstorm took a little different approach by starting to blog right when the entered into alpha. Ever since, they have continually posted screenshots and explanations, on their blog, of what they have planned for Crowdstorm. They have tried not to leave out any details of their steps and thinking in getting Crowdstorm launched. This has already helped create buzz around what they are creating.
Because of the way the folks at Crowdstorm have been marketing through their blog, they now have a good following that is waiting to blog about them once they launch. This will help create a far greater impact when they launch to the public. In a similar but more subtle way, 37signals has become infamous for using the same Marketing 2.0 tactics through their blog, Signal vs. Noise.
Derek,
I agree, they should have made the blog on their end instead of using Blogger. It probably would have created more buzz for Crowdstorm.
Fair point guys – we’ve just been focussing on the tech behind the site rather than the blog.
Consider us reprimanded though and aiming to move to WordPress :-)
Glad to hear that you guys are aiming to move to WordPress.
