MapQuest : Maps, Directions & Cheap Gas Prices

Just in time for a 1,500 mile road trip tomorrow, AOL owned MapQuest has announced the launch of their new MapQuest Gas Price Finder which allows MapQuest users search for the cheapest prices for gas, diesel or alternative fuels.

Features include (from MapQuest PR department):

* Convenience and integration of MapQuest’s directions feature allows consumers to map out a route to the lowest-priced gas stations;
* Ability to pinpoint the most convenient gas stations located close to user by entering in an address, city, state and zip;
* Ability to zoom in and out on the map and pan around to see all gas station locations in a specified area;
* Ability to locate the type of fuel stations a consumer wants by fuel type and grade, such as Premium Gasoline or E85, and
* Ability to find convenient gas stations by brand and search for the most convenient gas stations up to a 50 mile radius.

Sorry MapQuest but I can’t find this anywhere, ideally, as a user and traveler, I’d like to see the ability to track gas prices along a set route.

For example, I’ll be driving from Annapolis, MD to Tampa, Florida tomorrow. It’s a long drive and I’m planning on having to stop for gas at least 3 times.

If I could plot my course and enter my vehicle’s gas mileage, the ideal MapQuest Gas Price Finder would identify exactly where I should stop along my course to assure the most efficient gasoline budget.

Throw in a tool like that MapQuest, and you’ll convert me from AskCity, Google Maps and Yahoo Maps… especially for road trips.

Update : Hoffman, MN has the lowest right now at $1.58 a gallon so Lee Odden better hop in his Chrysler 300 and jet on over for a fill up.

    I just want to get maps and travel directions, not give someone a chance to send unnecessary pop-ups.

    This SUCKS…..Must be ideas from the new generation…….

  9. Dave says:

    Great invovation, big help in age of high gas prices, hopefully you could add the tracking of gas prices on a travel route. Would help to know which exit has the best price and where to fill up. How often is this updated? Daily? or other?

  10. Sharon says:

    Now I don’t know where the button is to click for directions. The old Mapquest was easier to use. I still don’t have the directions I need. Can you use the old format the way it was and then add another button to click for gas prices?

  11. Sandra says:

    Another great idea from the x-generation. Unbelieveable as it may seem, I don’t want to spend most of my time on the computer. I just want to get directions and go. Maybe, actually do something physical. This new site sucks

  12. Ann Moyer says:

    I hate this! All I want are some simple directions. What happened to the old format? Was that too simple? I still don’t have the directions

  13. Lost and Gone says:

    New mapquest SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I have to type in same info each time I want direction. What happen to the drop down list with all the places I travel too? Now I need to find a easier source. You guys can screw-up a wet dream!!!!!!

  17. Marie says:

    New mapquest sucks!! IF IT AIN’T BROKE DON’T FIX IT. Have to type in same info over and over, can’t “revise” and pop up that actually says “there is not listing for this location” WHAT?! Yes there is. Then it says “try this” and it’s the SAME DAMN ADDRESS. Please put it back the way it was. This is a perfect example for “change isn’t always for the best.”

  18. Marla davis says:

    Amen to all of the above Comments. New MapQuest does SUCK!!!! Please put it back. Last night I had the old format for a full 1 hour. I don’t know what happened it just reappeared!
    Today it’s gone again. I have to use this daily for my job…It’s so frustrating.

  19. Don says:

    I knew if I typed in Map Quest sucks I would find I am not alone.What a shame.

  20. Marie says:

    So when are the Map Quest people gonna catch on and see that their patrons are unhappy. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it dagummit!! At least put back the feature that remembers your past searches so I don’t have to keep putting in my own address over and over and over and over and………………..Boooooo. YOU SUCK MAP QUEST!!

  21. todd says:

    Sure wish mapquest would jump on the idea of plotting the cheapest gas along a set route. I have som major driving coming up and that could save 10′s of dollars at least!!! Oh yeah, and everything above is true as well.

  22. Kate says:

    I thought maybe it was just me! I’ve been using Map Quest forever – just type in my destination, print directions, and go! Now it’s so laborious I’ve given up and use Google Maps instead. In fact, maybe this was some nefarious Google scheme to bring down Map Quest.

  23. Steve says:

    How can a company screw things up so badly in the name of improvement. I stared at the new Mapquest forever trying to figure out a route to my destination. I won’t be back.

  24. pat says:

    THIS NEW METHOD SUCKS LIKE EVERYONE ELSE ABOVE IS SAYING…WHAT HAPPENED TO PUTTING IN YOUR STARTING DESTINATION, YOUR ENDING DESTINATION AND HAVING ROUTING AND//OR MAP FOR PRINTOUT AVAILABLE…..WHO THOUGHT UP THIS NEW BIMBO METHODOLOGY!!!!!?????;-(

  25. Floyd says:

    When are you going back to your orginal way of giving directions. Your new method is awful.

  26. Bill says:

    The old map quest was great . This new format sucks alot! I’m going to google maps
