Wont disagree with you Ann, as I have utmost respect for you, but will offer a word of caution. When using any automated email tool, you can get into a rhythm that can lull you into to careless mistakes. I’ve done it myself many times. While I do use Thunderbird, I no longer automate anything else. I have a master email that contains 10 or 15 different versions of the link request. I make this my sig file. Then, upon creating a new email, every one of those versons are inserted into my email, and I begin culling it down based on who it is I’m contacting, what I feel will resonate with them, etc. The net result is a short customized email, which once sent, is also copied into a newly created project folder inside Thunderbird, since I may be able to use it again with minimal editing. There’s more to this, of course, and I’m sure automation can be done better than I did it, but there’s also many ways to “skin a link” :) I also like having a project folder inside Thunderbird, as you can then use it as a database/tickler file over time.

So glad to learn of these tools. I started from scratch with linkbuilding campaigns about 3 months ago and had to development a bunch of efficiency builders along the way. I thought I had reached the threshold until I read this post. thanks!

I’m always interested in what the actual email says to website owners.

Mine vary from “hey I loved that article you wrote. I agree about the …” to “you’re wrong because x, y and z and heres why (link to my article)”

If anyone wants to share a generic one here I’d share mine as well.
